What it smells like

Golden, resinous and warm

Bergamot opens it, bright and slightly bitter, with lavender — the high-altitude kind, more herbal than floral. Then frankincense, cool and lifting, and tobacco: sweet, dried, a little like fruit and hay. Sandalwood, oud, patchouli and ambrette hold the base — creamy, dark-resinous, soft and very long. A trace of cumin well under the surface keeps it warm-blooded rather than churchy. Of the four, it’s the one people describe as beautiful without qualification.

Why anyone would want a perfume for joy

Joy is the widening one. It expands what you can take in, connects things that were sitting separately, and makes other people want to come with you. It’s what leadership actually runs on, and the first thing you lose when you’re overloaded.

We’re not selling you cheerfulness. We’re selling access to the state where the shape of the thing becomes visible again — where you can see what it’s for, not merely whether it’s on schedule.

Joy that has to be performed is exhausting. This is for finding it, not for faking it in front of a room.

Sun and citrus

Visionary carries bergamot. Citrus oils can make skin more sensitive to sunlight.

Apply to skin that will stay covered, or leave twelve hours before deliberate sun exposure. The inner wrist under a sleeve, or the base of the throat under a collar, both work well.

If you are layering this with another of the four, the effect adds up — the caution applies to the combination, not just to one bottle.

Sizes and shelf life

5ml — roll-on. Sold singly at £30, or as the four for £80. About three months of regular use.
10ml — roll-on in a handmade box. Available only in the four-bottle set, £140. About six months each.
1ml — available only in the tester set, £24, credited against your first order.

Jojoba doesn’t go off quickly. Keep it out of direct sun and it’ll be good for around two years; keep it in the fridge and longer.

A note on skin

Natural doesn’t mean inert. This is a perfume oil made from concentrated plant extracts, and plants are chemically complicated.

Patch test on your inner arm and wait 24 hours before wearing it properly. If you’re pregnant, breastfeeding, or being treated for anything, ask your doctor first. Keep it away from your eyes.
