What it smells like

It smells cold. Deliberately.

Four citrus oils open it, sharp and glassy, with a thread of peppermint running through. Then sage, juniper berry, and coriander seed’s dry warm spice keeping the whole thing from being merely cold. Pine needle and cypress hold the base — resinous, upright, green-black. It reads like altitude. Thin air, resin, stone.

Why anyone would want a perfume for fear

Not panic — the useful, low-grade kind that scans ahead, runs the simulation and finds the flaw before anyone else does. Every plan, every contingency and most good research begins as a well-directed fear.

The trouble with fear is that when it has nothing to do, it turns into worry. Fear with a job is called planning. This is a scent for giving it a job.

If it’s circling rather than working — the three-in-the-morning kind that never resolves into a list — a perfume won’t stop that, and it’s worth taking to a person rather than a bottle.

Sun and citrus

Analytical carries four citrus oils and a thread of peppermint. Citrus oils can make skin more sensitive to sunlight.

Apply to skin that will stay covered, or leave twelve hours before deliberate sun exposure. The inner wrist under a sleeve, or the base of the throat under a collar, both work well.

If you are layering this with another of the four, the effect adds up — the caution applies to the combination, not just to one bottle.

Sizes and shelf life

5ml — roll-on. Sold singly at £30, or as the four for £80. About three months of regular use.
10ml — roll-on in a handmade box. Available only in the four-bottle set, £140. About six months each.
1ml — available only in the tester set, £24, credited against your first order.

Jojoba doesn’t go off quickly. Keep it out of direct sun and it’ll be good for around two years; keep it in the fridge and longer.

A note on skin

Natural doesn’t mean inert. This is a perfume oil made from concentrated plant extracts, and plants are chemically complicated.

Patch test on your inner arm and wait 24 hours before wearing it properly. If you’re pregnant, breastfeeding, or being treated for anything, ask your doctor first. Keep it away from your eyes.
